On this article, I will share with you how to induce a bowel movement with green tea. But, first i will share a story on how I came to discover this. Honestly speaking, I was not looking to induce a bowel movement when this happened, it happened accidentally.
My bowel movement story
Before I went in the shower one morning, I thought about having a cup of my newly bought green tea. My husband had been on a trip to Ethiopia and brought me some green tea from there. I soaked a teabag of green tea in boiled water and off I went into the shower. I like my green tea well brewed.
Almost every morning, this morning was different. I had woken up early enough to take my breakfast at home. I usually take my breakfast at the office. Being a lady, by the time I had finished with my makeup, I realized I had not enough time to take breakfast. I prepared my sandwich in a rush and decided to take it with to work as usual. BUT, there my cup of green tea was. I took it (on an empty stomach) and off I rushed to the car and drove off.
A few minutes later, I felt a discomfort. It was a nausea like kind of feeling but not really. At that point I felt it was a bad idea to take unsweetened cup of green tea on an empty stomach. I took two bites from my sandwich while driving and the discomfort disappeared after a couple of minutes. I left the rest of my sandwich and finished it with another cup of tea, this time Rooibos tea at the office.
Something different at around 10am
Usually, I go to the bathroom for a bowel movement as soon as I get home after work. This particular morning I went to the bathroom at around 10 am about 2 hours after I took the green tea. Then I thought to myself, could the green tea be the one making me go to the toilet this early in the day? I told myself I was going to test this out. The following day I did the same thing. I prepared my cup of tea before my shower and took it before I left home. I came to work and the same thing happened again. I tried again the 3rd day and the same thing happened.
A twist to the test
On the 4th day, I decided I was not going to take the green tea to see what happens to my bowel. I carried my sandwich to the office and took it with Rooibos tea as usual and started my day. Guess what? No bowel movement until early in the evening. Then, I had green tea for three consecutive days and I have a bowel movement about two hours after. The 4th day I decided to miss the tea and I had the bowel movement late in the day. I decided, I try again the 5th day to take a cup of green tea on an empty stomach to see what happens again? I was shocked, another bowel movement around two hours after.
The simplest detox tea recipe
- Boiled water
- A teabag of green tea
Instructions: This should be done in the morning on an empty stomach. Take a green teabag and put in the cup. Pour boiled water over it and allow it to seat for 5 minutes to brew and cool a little. Do not add sugar or sweetener, just take it as is. Do not eat anything for 30 minutes but if you feel nausea, snack on something (I usually eat a fruit or take two bites of my sandwich). After 30 minutes, take your breakfast. That is all.
Two to three hours later, you should feel the urge to go to the bathroom.
The green tea I used was the Highland Grown Ethipopia Green Tea (natural Green tea). I have tried searching for it online but, I was not lucky. I am hoping that any other green tea will work just fine, as long as there is caffeine in it.
The benefits of green tea
Green tea is good for you and has many health benefits. I am not about to rewrite green tea benefits in this article as I have written them before on one of my articles Food that Get Rid Belly Fat.
After several test on myself, I found out that a cup of unsweetened green tea in the morning on an empty stomach can help you detox or/and give you a bowel movement within two to three hours. I got this results using the Highland Grown Ethipopia Green Tea (natural Green tea).
My internet research informed me that green tea and other types of teas and coffee can induce a bowel movement. However, according to Healthline, taking green tea for a bowel movement can have negative effect to your digestive system. Your digestive system can get used to this induction of bowel movement to a level that it will not function properly on its own.
It is recommended that you use this method to detox two to three times a year. If you have digestive problems, please consult a doctor.
